Luke 1:1-4
Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. As I sat in my Environmental Biology class on Thursday, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself, bite my tongue and hold my breath. The professor was talking about evolution in context with the meaning of theories in science. "Oh, great," I thought to myself. "I know where this is going." I did, but I didn't.
During her lecture, she shared a story about why she went into biology instead of something like physics. She described how she had been asked to measure the speed of the ball falling down a track, and how she said to herself, "This is stupid. I know how fast the ball is going to go down. So I went into biology." Her reasoning was, nothing is absolute in biology, like it is in physics. The study of biology is a life science, and life science studies are not meant to prove anything, she continued.
I didn't see that coming from my liberal professor. But then she dropped the bomb: Scientific theories are like laws, she declared, meaning the Theory of Evolution was fact because ... "something doesn't come from nothing."
Did you catch that? Something didn't come from nothing, but it still evolved?!
Truth is, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3) And God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Gen 1:1-2)
I appreciate that we have scientists like my professor. But I don't understand any longer why she doesn't believe in the creation story. Like our verse in Luke, many people have undertaken the task of drawing up an account of the things that have been fulfilled, and science continues to prove God's creation story is true. In the beginning God created it. He saw that it was wonderful, and declared it very good. And today we still marvel at it, like our good doctor Luke, who set out to explain the story of our savior, Jesus, who was in the beginning, who was God, and walked with us to save us for ourselves.
One of the main missions of science is to disprove the various hypotheses and theories our professors have come up with to explain the mysteries of God. They build their theories on top of theories and hypotheses that are flawed to begin with, unlike God's universe and creation. Then, they declare that their belief system is the right belief system. Only they are wrong.
If you believe, you should also have faith in the one true God and know with certainty this truth. In the beginning God created it, and he documented it. That word will transform your life.
Just believe.
